Foreign Ownership and Alien Landholding Licence
RestrictiveForeigners may own freehold property in St Lucia, but most must first obtain an Alien Landholding Licence. Citizenship-by-investment buyers of approved real estate are treated more favourably.
- Foreign buyers (other than nationals of Barbados, Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines) require an Alien Landholding Licence
- Licence fees are roughly US$1,850 (under one acre) or US$3,700 (over one acre), plus a non-refundable application fee
- Processing of the licence commonly takes 6-8 weeks
- CIP applicants buying approved real estate are generally exempt from the licence and from stamp duty on the purchase
- The CIP real-estate route requires at least US$300,000 in an approved development held for five years
- Approved CIP real-estate inventory is limited; the National Economic Fund donation from US$240,000 is the more available citizenship route
